  | | | | David Carmichael Stone is my primary medium. After a period of contemplation of the stone I begin carving, sometimes with a form in mind but often with just a feeling and a strong sense of discovery. I work with hand tools as much as possible. I love to feel the resistance and surrender of the stone in my hands. I can achieve a greater degree of subtlety and nuance in this manner and be more responsive to the stone’s personality and energy than I can with power tools.
